Bio & CV

Paul Newson (b. 1968, Lowestoft, UK) is a digital artist and photographer. His work explores the balance between human resilience and the forces of nature. He creates archival giclée prints that blend documentary photography with digital abstraction. The result is vivid, textured compositions that move between the real and the surreal.

His series Wingèd Beasties (2023–25) studies damselflies and dragonflies. These works capture their fragile beauty with fine detail and soft, fluid backgrounds. They celebrate the quiet strength of nature’s smallest creatures and invite reflection on life’s delicacy and resilience.

In contrast, The Mariner’s Dreams (2024–25) tells a surreal story of a lone figure at sea. Decaying structures, abstract textures, and symbolic imagery explore themes of isolation, memory, and change. The sea becomes both a literal setting and a metaphorical force.

Newson’s work has been shown at the Lowestoft Library Annual Photography Exhibition (2023, 2024) and the Wildlife Photography Exhibition at Carlton Marshes Visitor Centre (2023, 2025). His awards include dual Photographer of the Year titles (Lowestoft Photographic Club, 2023/24), several competition wins, and the Ernest and Olive Graystone Memorial Shield for pictorial excellence.

Rooted in the landscapes of his hometown, yet free from strict representation, Newson’s art reflects both fragility and strength. Each wing, wave, and weathered surface tells a story of survival, transformation, and quiet magnificence.
